As part of my job in the communications department at The Texas Annual Conference, I went on-location to a few Methodist Churches in the Houston area so we could report on damage and relief efforts after Hurricane Harvey.
These images were captured at Riverside United Methodist Church in Houston and Kingwood United Methodist Church, Kingwood.
If I'm being honest, working in communications and social media for Harvey relief has been emotionally draining lately, but I'm so glad that I get to do it. During the storm, there was one woman from Iowa who DM'd us on Facebook asking for assistance for her elderly friend who was too scared to leave her flooded home in Houston. Fortunately, I was able to contact the woman's local church who rapidly dispatched someone to rescue her.
I've heard a lot of heartbreak lately, but I've also seen a lot of hope. I'm so thankful for all of the amazing work happening in our communities, and I hope that I can keep telling those stories well.
