24 Hours in Austin, TX

July 29, 2017

We recently visited Austin, TX for a quick trip. We were lucky to be able to visit family and friends and eat some amazing food. A big thank you to my cousin who was the sweet enough to host us in her home for the evening. It was so good to catch up.

When we arrived in the city, we began with some vegan froyo on The Drag, hit up SoCo for some window shopping, and then met my cousin for dinner at The Citizen Eatery, a completely vegetarian restaurant. It was so nice to be in a city where vegetarianism is very popular. It made finding good food so easy. Notice that Pedro ordered a cocktail and a bowl of granola (AKA cereal). That's the man I married.

Of course, because he only had a bowl of cereal for dinner, he suggested that we stop at Gordough's Donuts afterward. Although I ate vegan for most of the trip, this chocolate donut was my kryptonite. We spent the rest of the evening chatting and playing with my cousin's precious dogs.

The next morning we met my girl Madeline for brunch at Snooze A.M. Eatery, and I had some of the best tofu (scrambled like eggs) that I have ever tried. I don't really like scrambled eggs, so honestly it was even better than real eggs. We are definitely going to have to visit the Houston location. We hit up a couple of stores after lunch, namely the Japanese grocery store that Pedro was fond of when we lived in Austin.

As a suggestion from my cousin, we went to Bull Creek District Park for the first time. When we were living in Austin before, we never really visited any of the parks or popular nature spots. It was a fun place to explore and climb. We ended the trip with dinner at my cousin's house. She made a really cool cranberry rice salad, but unfortunately my camera was dead by the time we got there so I don't have any photos from the visit.

It was good to walk around somewhere that used to be so familiar to us. Hope to be back soon.
